Histopath Diagnostic Specialists COVID-19 Testing

Our aim

Our aim is to provide gold standard testing for COVID-19 in a way that is reliable, safe and available. There is no doubt that controlling the impact of COVID-19 requires extensive testing. There is however a limited supply of testing reagents and equipment world wide. We are working on novel ways to reduce the reagents required per test and therefore increase the number of people who can be tested.

For more than 20 years, Histopath Diagnostic Specialists has provided innovative diagnostic services for our doctors and patients. In this time of national emergency we have focused our attention on COVID-19. We are working with international leaders in PCR technology to provide the most sensitive test methods available for diagnosing active COVID-19. Nose and throat swabs are currently the preferred specimens for testing.

We are working with Roche and Thermo Fisher, world leaders in diagnostic technology

We Recommend Self Collection

our service

When a doctor refers a patient to Histopath for COVID-19 testing, there are 4 simple step.

1. The doctor faxes or emails request to Histopath

2. Histopath contacts the patient and arranges for our courier to deliver a self collection kit

3. The patient self collects the specimen

4. Our courier picks up the specimen from the patient and returns it to Histopath for testing

The process avoids exposure to healthcare workers and allows the patient to remain self isolated

What is COVID-19

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the novel virus SARS-CoV-2. The virus is a coronavirus, genetically related to SARS-CoV which caused the SARS epidermic in 2003. Both viruses cause Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) which can be fatal.

SARS-CoV-2 is a ‘novel’ virus, which means that no human has ever been exposed to the virus previously, making the entire world population vulnerable to infection.

The best test currently

available for diagnosis

of active COVID-19 is PCR

Many people are asymptomatic. testing identifies carriers who can then be quarantined to protect others
